ISTVS RESPONDED THE NEED FOR RESILIENCE COMMUNITIES

The pastoral population constitute substantial part in the population in the Saharan Africa . The economy of most of these people relay on rain  fed agriculture. apparently the droughts is on the top of the factors perpetuating  the worse economy of  the pastoral communities in the region. the droughts became more frequent in the region with more extreme consequences including death in both animals and humans , low agricultural gains including livestock price shocks and  low income per capita.
actually our community is so fragile that it doesn't coup with these natural hazards , the community is not resilience when it comes to talk about natural disasters. the mechanisms for coping and preventing these recurrent droughts is one of the main agenda that many governments and regional organizations by collaborating with international organizations are thinking about. the IGAD, a regional Economic community has already lay-down an strategy or initiative called IDDRSI ( IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and sustainability initiative) with the aim to get resilience communities with better manpower and resources to coup with natural hazards like droughts. the program is 15 years project and it is already begun.
the most important initiative above all was that IGAD specialized regional institution ( ISTVS) in response to the already ongoing efforts made and the long journey to get self reliant and resilience community  ,advertised a new four years full University course called  Dry-land Agriculture and Agro-ecosystem management ( DEAM). the main aim behind establishment of this new course is  to produce manpower that is expected to contribute towards redressing the unique constraints limiting the productivity and ecosystem management within the IGAD dry-lands. the prgramm will be implemented by University of Nairobi (UoN) which is one of the leading universities in the region. the UoN  have signed a memorandum of understanding with ISTVS ; IGAD regional instution that located in the heart of the arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) of the IGAD region
